We're thrilled to share that our expedition has reached an impressive 80°37N latitude, coming incredibly close to Phipps Island. Despite challenging ice conditions, we've managed to navigate almost to the island, halting just 10 nautical miles (18 km) away due to packed ice.
Today's journey through the ice has been an unforgettable experience. The breathtaking scenery was worth every effort, but with drifting ice posing a risk, we're now heading toward a shallow bay to ensure safety. Our team will assess the situation over the next few days, and we're hopeful that we'll soon reach Phipps Island to raise our flag in triumph.
A noteworthy milestone: we are the first ship to venture this far north after the winter season. The ice has only just opened up, allowing us to make this remarkable progress.
In just 1.5 hours, we'll be raising a glass of champagne to celebrate this incredible success. What a journey it's been!
Stay tuned for more updates from the Arctic!
